Camgian Hires New Artificial Intelligence Fellow


STARKVILLE, MS, MS – 17 December 2019 – Camgian Microsystems Corporation today announces the addition of Dr. Cary Butler as an Artificial Intelligence Fellow. In this new role, Butler will be leading Camgian’s efforts in the areas of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Data Science with a focus on advancing Camgian’s future capabilities in these critical areas.

Dr. Butler recently retired from the US Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) after serving for over thirty years. For twenty of those years, he served as a Lead Technical Director responsible for program development and strategic planning. Butler also served as the lead data scientist for the DoD’s High-Performance Computing Program, ERDC’s Lead Scientist for Artificial Intelligence (AI) and recently worked on a year and a half special assignment in DC as the Chief Data Scientist for the US Army Corps of Engineers. Preceding his assignment as technical director, he served twelve years as a computer scientist conducting research in AI, systems interoperability, and decision support for battlefield command, control, computer, communication and Information (C4I) systems.

Dr. Butler currently holds Adjunct Faculty status at Mississippi State University (MSU) and Jackson State University in the Department of Computer Science at both schools. He conducts classes in the areas of data science, machine learning, and AI and has served on more than 20 master-and PhD-level graduate committees. Dr. Butler received his BS and MS in Computer Science from Mississippi State University and his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Texas A&M. Mississippi State University recognized Dr. Butler’s contributions to the field of computer science by naming him a Distinguished Fellow in the James Worth Bagley College of Engineering in 2007.
