Mississippi Companies Work Together to Find, Remove, Unexploded Ordnance

Mav6, LLC and Camgian Microsystems develop UXO locator systems

Vicksburg, MSNovember 3rd, 2011 – Mav6, LLC awarded a $225,000 subcontract to Camgian Microsystems of Starkville, MS, in support of the Unexploded Ordnance Asset Radio Frequency Identification System (UARS) for the United States Air Force.

Under this new subcontract, Camgian Microsystems will support the development of several prototype transmitter and receiver systems for unmanned aerial vehicles to locate airdropped unexploded ordnance.

Mav6, LLC has supported the Air Force's UARS program for the past year.

The UARS program aims to introduce new technology to aid in the location and removal of buried unexploded ordnance. Unexploded ordnance, specifically air-dropped munitions, pose a significant risk to warfighters and civilian populations on the battlefield, and on training facilities and test ranges around the world. The hazard posed on the battlefield arises from either unintentional detonation by soldiers and civilians, or reuse by militant groups who collect the munitions as components for use in improvised explosive devices. These hazards can linger for decades after the conflict ends.
